Pied Piper Before and After School Program
About the Program
Pied Piper School has been serving local families and children since 1980. Our program has traditionally served children ages 18 months to 5 years, but has recently expanded to accommodate a need for before and after school care for local school age children. We love seeing our Pied Piper students after they graduate and enjoy getting to know some new friends as well!
Pied Piper is family owned and operated, with a Director on site at all times. Only Pied Piper staff, students and service providers have access to the building which is monitored with a security camera system at all times. This video surveillance spans the inside of the building as well as the playground and parking lot areas in order to ensure safety and security.
We offer a flexible schedule for the morning drop off and evening pickups for whichever days you choose!
Registration forms are available online or at the school! Come and join the fun in a safe, secure, child friendly environment!
Before School Schedule
Drop Off
Students can be dropped off any time between 7 am when the school opens, up until their scheduled bus pick up time!
Arrival
Any child who has not eaten breakfast is welcome to sit at a table and eat! Bring in their favorite cereal, waffles, pancakes or anything else! We have a full kitchen available to refrigerate or heat up any breakfast items you might bring!
We can even keep a box of their favorite breakfast food in our refrigerator or freezer and will let you know when we’re running low! No need to worry about eating before you arrive and bringing things back and forth each morning. Your child can enjoy a relaxed breakfast with their friends!
Play
In the morning we have coloring pages, daily themed arts and crafts, bracelet making, Play-Doh and board games available at the tables.
Children can choose to play inside, in our large facility on the various climbing towers, in play houses, our reading corner, indoor game area, kitchen corner, dress up area and more!
When the weather is nice, they can also choose to play outside on our expansive turf play area, or our kid sized basketball court.
Bus Pickup
Our director Max, along with our Pied Piper before school staff accompany students outside to wait for the bus! We have a fenced in front yard area where they can safely stand to wait with their friends until the bus pulls up to our driveway.
They take turns talking about what they’re looking forward to in school, fun things they did at home, or anything that they’re excited about and play trivia and guessing games while waiting for the bus to arrive!
After School Schedule
Arrival
Buses arrive at various times depending on the school, schedules are established at the beginning of the year and we can let you know what time your child’s bus usually arrives once we receive the schedule from the Yorktown school district.
When your child’s bus arrives they are met by members of the Pied Piper staff and escorted into the building through our fenced in front yard.
Upon entering the building, they stop by the front desk to talk to Kathy and Max and to share with everyone the best part of their day. If there was a worst part of the day, we talk about that too!
Snack
Once they have settled and put away their belongings in a cubby, students are offered a special Pied Piper snack including cheerios, pretzels or gold fish. During school wide celebrations or holidays their snack may be themed or contain something special to celebrate the season!
Students are also welcome to eat any snacks packed for them that they did not eat during the school day!
If your child has special snacking needs, we are more than happy to accommodate or to keep an approved snack in our kitchen for your child to have.
Outdoor Play
We have a large outdoor turf play yard for soccer, kickball, frisbee, or any game you can imagine along with climbing towers, slides, and play houses. In addition, we have a kid sized basketball court for any interested in playing basketball with their friends, or drawing with chalk. There are plenty of spaces and activities for those interested in getting some fresh air when the weather is nice!
Homework Help
All backpacks are checked to see if students have any homework assigned to them. Homework is completed at age appropriate tables, with Pied Piper staff to assist and support as needed. Students are able to complete their daily homework sheets, study for a test, or complete any reading or writing assignments for the day. When a student is finished, they show their hard work to our after school director Molly to make sure that everything is completed and that their learning goals have been met.
Indoor Play
We offer a variety of indoor play spaces within our “Green Room” for school aged children. This includes an indoor climbing tour and indoor sports equipment for active kids as well as an Obie interactive gaming projector. There are tables for ping-pong and table hockey, plenty of board games and unlimited arts and crafts. Children can choose from various play areas including dolls and playhouses, kitchen corner, legos, lincoln logs and blocks, action figures and more. They are also welcome to bring items from home to play with their friends.
